An electrical job is a very important task that has to be handled by skilled technicians that possess the proper equipment and knowledge to do it correctly. Job quality aside, it’s important to hire skilled electrical contractors, since one of the primary causes of house fires is faulty electrical wiring or installation issues. This is more apparent in older homes that don’t have a grounded outlet.
In this post, top electrical company Bailey & Shipp Electric shares three mistakes that can result from hiring an unskilled electrician.
Improperly-secured wiring. These issues can happen if your wiring is stapled too tightly to the studs or beams. In turn, your wires can be damaged or frayed if not properly attached. To keep your wires safe and secure, you can run them through conduits or table trays. Additionally, the National Electric Code has specific requirements for nonmetallic sheathed cables. It stipulates how they need to be stapled and secured and how close they need to be to your outlet box and through the run.
The wrong wiring size. The most dangerous thing that can occur when working with an inexperienced electrician is getting the wrong size wire. Installing the wrong size of wiring can lead to overheating. This can also happen if the number of outlets and light receptacles used in one single circuit overloads the capacity of the circuit.
Unprotected wiring. An unprotected cable can get damaged due to human actions as well as the elements. For an added layer of protection, they must be covered using quality electrical tape or any other method approved by the NEC.
